Read and Share The Story Of Christmas (Book Review)
The Story Of Christmas Story Retold by Gwen Ellis Illustrated by Steve Smallman
Book Description The Story of Christmas from the Read and Share™ Bible is a colorful retelling of the birth of Christ and the events surrounding it.
Based on the International Children’s Bible, this book begins with the birth of John the Baptist. Next comes the angel appearing first to Mary, then to Joseph, the trip to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, the angel’s announcement to the shepherds, the wise men and their gifts, fleeing to Egypt, and at last heading home to Nazareth. The “Can You Retell the Story” activity at the end of the book is a fun way for children to learn to tell the story themselves.
The animated DVD includes a 15-minute story plus coloring pages and other bonus features.
My Review: I love this book. This book is in Thomas Nelson's line of Read and Share stories for children. This book is easy for children to understand and is retelling the story of Christmas. This book is broken up into 10 mini-stories. Each mini-story has the Scripture reference of where it is taken from in the Bible. Also there is a question for thought at the end of each mini-story that is good for reflection and get the children thinking. The last few pages of this story is a Quiz, asking you to put the out of order pictures in the correct order and retell the story. I really like this. It is a fun way to check and see if the children understood and how good their reading comprehension is. The author has written this in a simple and child friendly way. The illustrations are really cute and simple in this book. I would love for all children to read this and understand that Christmas is about the Birth of Christ. This is a very informative and fun reading book. I highly recommend it.
