Numenko Review and Giveaway

Numenko is a fun math game for children and adults to play. It is similar to scrabble but instead of letters you use numbers. You play your tiles in a crossword fashion creating sums. Numenko is very unique though because one of the titles you use is the multiple choice.

This tile can be (-, +, ÷, x and =) and when you use it, you simply declare which operator you wish it to be for that calculation. Other tiles include numbers 0-9 and the Freechoice tile (smile face) which can be used like a wild as either the multiple choice or a number. When you play the numbers, they can not be changed but you can use two numbers in a row to create a higher number. (example put a 4 then a 9 to be 49.) The multiple choice tiles can be changed during the game to suit their requirement but it still must be a multiple choice. There are two versions of this game. The Board Game and the Numenko-in-a-bag game.

The Board Game is played in a crossword fashion on a board using wooden tiles with numbers and multichoices. You lay the tiles to make a calculation and the answer to that calculation is your score. The highest scorer at the end of the game is the winner. This is great for ages 9 and older and is good for 2-4 players.

I reviewed the Numenko-in-a-bag game , the travel version, which is great to take anywhere. This one is recommended for ages 7 and up because you need to know some math skills to play. You can play with 2-6 players. This game is played in a similar fashion to the board game but without the board. Each player plays independently and children and adults can play against each other on equal footing. This is not a scoring game, the winner is the player who has no tiles left at the end of the game. This is ideal for younger children or those who are not so sure of their number skills, and can be played by all ages at the same time.
My daughter and I enjoyed playing this game the other night. We played a few times and each time we played, we had alot if fun. (Even my teen said it was a Fun Game!). My son wasn't home otherwise he would have loved this too. I like that this game is fun but yet makes you think. This is perfect for summer vacations to play to keep up with your math skills. What I really like is that playing this game with my children (9 & 13 ), we are all playing on the same level. My son can add and subtract and my daughter and I can multiply and divide or use addition and subtraction and still all have fun playing. You can make it as challenging or simple as you want. I think that children would really enjoy playing this game in their classrooms and the teachers would love how fun and educational this is.

You can purchase these games (in the USA) at the Daily Grommet or at the ChinaBerry starting at $14.95.

Or Win it!!!! One of my lucky readers will win the Numenko-in-a bag game. (Travel version)
