The Dragon and the Turtle - Book Review -

The Dragon and the Turtle
By Donita K. Paul and Evangeline Denmark.
Illustrated by Vincent Nguyen

About The Book:
Friends come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Sometimes they’re even dragons.

Roger loves adventure. Today he’s playing pirate, sailing the high seas, dancing to the hornpipe, and catching fish. But the wind’s blown him off course and he’s . . . well . . . lost.

When Padraig, a kitten-sized, bug-eating dragon, encounters the lost turtle, he offers to help Roger find his way home. Roger’s directions take some time to follow—his house looks brown, sounds like singing, smells like baking, feels like sand, and tastes like strawberries—and along the way, Roger and Padraig become friends. And friendship always yields unexpected rewards. Like cookies.

My Thougths:
I love this book. This is a great book for children to read and parents will appreciate the lessons taught. This book is about a dragon being friends with a turtle. Padraig and Roger just met but Padraig puts his needs aside and goes out of his way to be helpful. This story shows how Padraig puts in an extra effort to help Roger find his home, even though he is hungry. Roger is patient and remains cheerful until he arrives home. Through their journey, they learned alot about each other and they learned alot about friendship. This teaches us that you can be friends with someone, even if you look different or like different things. In the end these two are rewarded with a great friendship (and cookies, recipe for Chocolate chip Snappers included). This book has bright and colorful pictures that is sure to keep the children's attention. I would recommend this book! I can't wait to read this to my religious education class, I know they are going to enjoy it!
